11.00 a.m. Arrival. Ledenika is a cave in Vratsa Mountain, 16 km west of Vratsa. Approximately 300 m in length. The cave is accommodated for tourists. It has 10 halls, ornate with stalactites, stalagmites, stalactones, rock draperies and waterfalls. A natural site and a national tourist beauty spot. Ledenika is the most frequently visited Bulgarian cave.The Bulgarian “led” means ice and during the winter months the caves are full of icicles. During the summer months the caves with their wonderful array of stalagmites and stalactites, many of which strongly resemble fairy - tale characters, become a fantasy land for young and old. The very young or old may find the caves a bit tricky to negotiate and don’t forget to take warm clothes - they are after all called the ice caves!
